Abstract

The creative heritage of Mustafa Shokai is at a new stage of comprehensive study. In his articles
written in Kokand, Istanbul, Tbilisi, Berlin and Paris, the unity and integrity of the Turkic people were the
main priorities. M. Shok’s publications in the newspapers «Yash Turkestan», «Turkestan», «Birlik tuy», etc.
they attracted the attention of historians and served as the basis for some studies. The language of his works,
published in the common Turkic literary language (Chagatai or Ottoman), today attracts the special attention of
linguists and comparativists. However, the poems written by M. Shokai remain out of the attention of literary
critics. The reason for this phenomenon is that his poetic works were not published in print, but remained in
handwritten form. His poem «Kakazhanu!», written in his student years to a Turkmen friend K. Berdiyev,
as well as the song «The Jumping goat saw from the top of the mountain», born of nostalgia for the country,
traveling around Tbilisi, did not get into a special object of study. The literary heritage of M. Shoka is important
for the modern science of Shoka studies. It is important to analyze the calligraphy, writing style and problems
of artistic expression of these poems found in foreign archives. M. Shokai’s legacy will be fully revealed if
his articles written in the Turkic literary language and poems written in his native language are fully studied.
